What's the minimum age to rent a sports car?

“Am I old enough to rent a sports car?” – many people ask themselves this, especially younger drivers. Before you can rent a sports car, some requirements apply, concerning above all your age, how long you've held your licence and your driving experience. We explain what matters and why these rules make sense.

Minimum age & licence

With us a minimum age of 19 applies and a category B licence held for at least one year. These requirements are the same for every car in our fleet – there are no vehicle-specific exceptions. The binding reference is always the information on the Requirements page.

Sports cars have considerably more power than an average car. A minimum age of 19 and at least one year of holding your licence ensure you've already gathered driving experience – this reduces the risk and is also customary on the insurance side. These conditions apply to every car with us.

Which documents do I need?

At handover you present your driving licence and a valid identity card – alternatively a passport together with a certificate of residence (no older than 3 months). The vehicle may only be driven by the persons named in the rental contract.

Beginner-friendly models

If you're renting a sports car for the first time, the Golf GTI Clubsport is an excellent choice: thanks to front-wheel drive, modern assistance systems and 300 PS, it's powerful yet very approachable. The Audi RS 3 with quattro all-wheel drive is also very manageable but, with 400 PS, offers even more performance for experienced drivers.

Does the age limit apply to every car?
